God is Aware of All Things
The Qur’an presents God as completely aware of all things—every thought, intention, word, deed, and outcome. This awareness covers both the seen and the unseen, the public and the private, the past and the future. Nothing escapes God’s knowledge or observation, and no circumstance lies outside His comprehension. This awareness establishes God as the ultimate witness, evaluator, and judge.
How the Qur’an Describes God’s Awareness
(6:59)
“With Him are the keys of all the unseen; none knows them except He. He knows everything on land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls without His knowledge, nor is there a grain in the darkness of the earth, nor anything wet or dry, without being recorded in a profound record.”
This verse extends God’s awareness from the cosmic to the microscopic.
(50:16)
“We created the human, and We know what his soul whispers to him. We are closer to him than his jugular vein.”
God knows thoughts and intentions before they are spoken or acted upon.
(57:4)
“He knows everything you do.”
Awareness includes not only knowledge but continuous witnessing.
(2:115)
“To God belongs the east and the west; wherever you go, there is God’s presence.”
Awareness is not spatially limited or dependent on proximity.
(3:120)
“God is fully aware of everything they do.”
Collective human actions and social dynamics are never hidden or overlooked.
Implications for Worship and Conduct
Sincerity becomes central
Because God knows the inner state, sincerity (ikhlas) is essential and cannot be feigned. (2:225)Accountability becomes inner and outer
Hidden intentions are subject to judgment just like visible actions. (99:7–8)Privacy offers no exemption from ethics
Morality does not depend on being observed by people.Comfort for the oppressed
No injustice, even if hidden, escapes God’s awareness. (14:42)No need for intermediaries or surveillance
No agent, guardian, or witness is needed to “inform” God—He already knows. (35:31)
When God’s awareness is understood, worship becomes personal, intimate, and free from theatrical displays.
Rejecting False Notions (Qur’an-Only)
A Qur’an-only view rejects ideas such as:
God being unaware of private matters
God needing angels or saints to convey petitions
God depending on rituals to “notice” individuals
God judging only outward deeds
God’s knowledge being limited to the future or the unseen
The Qur’an corrects these ideas directly:
(2:77)
“Do they not know that God knows their secrets and their conspiracies, and that God is the Knower of all the unseen?”
Awareness includes both hidden intentions and hidden plans.
